10 yrs ago today a disaster changed the world, and 3000 innocent people lost their lives. It was a tragedy, and one the world will never forget. The US will never be the same. Let us remember the unity and selflessness that followed, and remember the sacrifice of those innocent people and the heroes of the NYPD and FDNY.
We should take from that great tragedy 10 yrs ago that violence is never the answer, and that war always hurts the innocent people, the bystanders, not the politicians. The word has many different ideologies, but the goal is to live peacefully and tolerantly, as part of the global community.

Hilarious Change-Up Hits the Funny Bone in all the Right Places
The Change-Up5 stars out of 5
When I went into the theater to see the Change-Up, I thought "Hey, why not? It's free" but i didn't have any expectations that i would actually enjoy myself. I've seen the body switch movie done many times over, and done in many ways. The most famous versions are the actioner Face-Off and the various versions of Disney comedy Freaky Friday.
I have seen many recent comedies including the hit the Hangover (same writers as the Change-Up) and while the Hangover was a hit, i didn't find it as funny as many others did. The Change-Up, however, is comedy done right. The comedy is both sophistocated and raunchy, and there were cetainly some gross out moments, but overall, the movie was jus a blast.
Jason Bateman(Dave Lockwood) and Ryan Reynolds (Mitch Planko) shined as best friends walking two different roads in life. They both got their share of laughs, and they played sucessfully off of each other. Leslie Mann was also great, and has some genuine funny moments as Dave's wife Jamie. I also have to give some props to young Sydney Rouviere whose limited scenes had me roaring as Dave's young Daughter Cara.
The rest of the cast was great as well. I did have some concerns about the creepy children playing Dave and Jamie's youngest, twins Peter and Sara (Luke and Lauren Bain). They had some funny moments, but overall they were a little creepy. If you see the movie, you'll see what i mean.
I certainly don't want to spoil it for you, but this movie had some great surprise funny moments, but it also had its serious moments - especially at the end when reality sinks in and Mitch and Dave realize what we all know they're going to realize - that they want their own lives back.
In the end it was a great surprise with a great cast and many laughs. At times, the entire theater was laughing. At the end, I was sorry this was over, and this is one movie I'll be catching again on DVD.

As T hurried home, he thought to himself how this was the worst thing that could have happened – not just for him, but for his whole family. He had just gotten a frantic call from his mother while at work, asking him to rush home. His little brother, Owen was having a temper tantrum. These temper tantrums had getting progressively worse for weeks, and eventually Owen was going to hurt someone. Or worse, someone was going to discover the families secret. About a year ago, Owens powers had manifested, just as his had – same age, same temper tantrums. The only difference was that Owen was way more powerful than T will ever be. Unlike T whose powers had manifested as telekenesis, Owens powers had manifested, and manifested, and manifested again. Each time T had thought it was over, Owen would use a different ability, one they had never seen him use before. This time it was the same power as his, the power to move things with his mind. It was a pretty versatile power, and T was confident he could handle this particular outburst, having had years of practice perfecting his abilities. He could control it with the precision of a laser beam, where Owen was likely to be like a bull in a china shop. He just hoped he was right.

As he got off the bus, he heard sirens and stashed his laptop bag behind a bush about a block away from their building. He may need to have both hands free if police were involved. He quickened his pace, almost running the last hundred feet. As he arrived at the apartment building, he saw police at both the front and the back door. It looked like they had just arrived – hopefully he could beat them to Owen, or else someone was likely to get hurt. That is, if someone hadn't already. If he didn't do something, Owen was going to get taken in by the police. Whenever a super was discovered by the government, they did one of two things, get them to join the military, or put them on stamp. Stamp was a drug created by the government that stamped out their abilities, but it had some nasty side effects. T didn't know the science of it, but he had heard that it worked on the part of the brain where the powers were activated, effectively turning it off. It Turned some people into zombies, and he had heard It had even killed some. The government feared the supers, and treated them like enemies of the state, unless they were willing to work as a weapon for the government.
He only saw one way into the apartment without going through the police– through the window in the living room. Thirty feet up, on the third floor. It was likely that the police would see him, but he didn't have much choice. In order to protect his brother and his secret, he would have to reveal his powers to the police and whoever else was watching. It was what it was – Owen needed him.
This had been his favorite trick as a kid, but as he got older it got harder and harder to do – the bigger he got, the more taxing it was on his system. Now whenever he tried it, he got a killer headache. In any case, he had never heard of a telekinetic who could do it. Then again, it was dangerous to brag. He floated into the air and sped towards the window. Hopefully, but a blur to the cops below.
With a flick of his right hand, the screen had fallen to the ground below, and a flick of the left hand had opened the window,with a practiced, fluid motion. The speed at which he traveled would hopefully help him retain his anonymity, at least in the short term. His head began to pound like a jackhammer, as he landed in the living room. He looked around him to find things floating around in circles – a tornado of bric a brac. It seems the epicenter was the kitchen, where he could hear wimpering and crying, barely audible above the din of broken dishes and glass. T guessed Owen was scared, and didn't know how to turn it off. The same thing had happened to him .The last few months had been rough on Owen, mostly because he was scared of what he would do next. As he got older, he would learn to control his abilities, but at this age, his emotions were in control, and the angrier or more scared he got, the more dangerous things would get. Right now he was probably terrified. Even T was nervous, the display of power Owen was showing was much more than anything he had ever displayed. If he wasn't so concerned, he might even be jealous.
He made his way towards the kitchen, probably not the safest room in the house for him to be in, having to pass right through storm. As he entered the kitchen, he had to generate a thin shield around his body to protect him from the flying debris.
“Hey Bud, are you okay?” T said to his little brother, curled into a ball on the kitchen floor.
“Don't come near me, I might hurt you” He said in a small voice, hoarse from screaming or crying, possibly both.
“It's ok – I can help you. First you just need to calm down. It's going to be okay. Where's mom?”
“She ran into her room crying. I didn't mean hurt anyone.” With every word, he just got more and more upset, causing the few items left untouched in the room to life off the ground.
“I know you didn't bud.” T said as he slowly made his way over to his brother, avoiding flying appliances, dishes, and food. Just as he reached his brother a knife came flying at his face – luckily it bounced off his shield. “See buddy, you can't hurt me – don't worry. It'll be ok.”
As he reached his brother, he cradled him in his arms, trying both to comfort him and calm him down. It seemed to be working as things started falling to the floor. He could hear the sounds of breaking dishes and furniture, as everything was suddenly silent and still.
Just as T had calmed Owen down, T could hear people running up the stairs. “Okay Owie, you have to trust me right now. We have to go. We'll come back later to make sure mom is okay, but right now we have to get out of here. Try to stay calm – I know it's hard, but don't worry, we'll be okay.”
KNOCK-KNOCK
“Open up in there. It's the police.” He heard from the door, as the police had finally reached it. They certainly wouldn't take no for an answer, especially not after seeing T's display.
“Am I going to get arrested?” Owen asked.
“No – I won't let anything happen to you – that's why we have to go though, so come on.” T picked him up and started walking towards the window. There was only one way out, and he could just imagine the headache he was going to have when it was all said and done. He looked down at Owen, and noticed his eyelids had begun to get heavy, as he let out a yawn – using that much raw power really wore him out. “Go ahead, Owen, go to sleep, I'm sure you're tired. I'll be with you when you get up.” Seconds later he was out. It was likely that he'd be out for at least a few hours.
Just then their mom ran out into the living room, her tear-stained cheeks evidence of what she's been through the last few hours, and blood was running down her cheek. She must have gotten knicked by something before she found escape behind her bedroom door.
“It's the police, what are we going to do?” She asked. She knew better than anyone else the dangers of the government catching someone like Owen and himself. Owen's father had been taken by the police when Owen was just six, and was never seen or heard from again.
“Well considering they might've seen me fly throug the window, I'd say we have to get out of here”
“Ok – let's go.”
“No, mom. Not you. It won't be safe. I'll take care of Owen, but we have to go now.”
“I'm not letting you take my baby.” She looked like someone had punched her in the emotional gut, which is pretty much what had happened. At least the government wouldn't get him.
“I don't know that we have any other choice”
BANG-BANG. Sounds like they'd started kicking in the door.
“Sooner or later they're going to get the door open,and if they don't find someone here, they're going to think it was you causing the chaos. Just tell them someone broke in.”
“Where are you going to go?”
“I don't know, but we'll be fine. I'll call you when I can.”
She looked at T and Owen with a look of loss and confusion. She walked over to T, and kissed him on the cheek. “Keep him safe.”
“Always.”
“What am I going to tell them when they ask where he is?”
“Just tell them I'm babysitting him. They may have seen me fly in the window, but I don't think they got a good look.”
Both T and his mother knew that it may never be safe for Owen and T to come back. Sooner or later, the cops were going to talk to neighbors who would report that they heard Owen crying (or screaming) and things breaking. They'll put that together with the report of the man flying in the window, and they'll figure it out. Supers were rare, but not much else could cause the destruction in the apartment, or the blur through the window.
T's former life was over. If they suspected that Owen was a super, they would know that T was. His flying spectacle assured that. This changed everything for T – he couldn't go back to his job, couldn't contact his friends, and now he had a ten year old to care for. And the day started out so boring.
T was out the window just moments before the cops burst through the door. He heard them accusingly questioning his mother, and hoped he had done the right thing in leaving her behind. He didn't think the cops could arrest her without just cause – supers were the only ones without rights, and that was just because they were so dangerous. Or so T rationalized. In reality, the cops could probably do whatever they wanted.
He had now become an enemy of the state, cut off from everyone and everything he had ever known. He could understand the rationale – if Owen wasn't his brother, T might think he was dangerous, a ticking time bomb even. Above all else, though, he was just a scared ten year old boy, like any other. He needed someone, now more than ever, to have faith in him. T wouldn't let his brother down. He was all he had, now.
From the fire escape, he looked down and saw that the cops were gone from the back door. They must be the ones inside the apartment. T was trying to decide if it was worth going back for his bag, hidden behind the tree a block away. The bag had his laptop, his phone charger, and some money in it, which would come in handy.
From behind him in the apartment, he heard a commotion and realized the police were coming to look out the window. Eventually, he was going to need his bag, so it was worth taking the chance. He swooped down behind the tree a block from the apartment, grabbing his bag. It didn't look like anyone had seen him land – it came in handy to be able to travel that fast. One thing was for sure, T was glad to be on solid ground again.
He didn't know where he was going, but he had all the time in the world to figure it out. Just then the pounding of his head brought attention to itself. He had never carried anything as heavy as Owen with him as he flew. He hadn't even been sure he could. Now he knew. He started walking away from the apartment at a moderate pace, trying not to bring attention to himself, staying on side streets and backyards. He had to get them out of Boston.

On Hiatus...
So for those of you who still watch this space, I have been negligent in my duties. I have been so busy at my real job that i have not had the opportunity to update this in quite some time. As some of you may know, I have a real adult job that requires me to manage a medical clinic 5 days a week, which causes no end of stress and frustration in my life, so much so that I have not had time to watch much TV or review anything, and i haven't had a chance to blog.
I'm going to try to get back to my blog from time to time, but it will be a little...different than in the past. I have also begun learning the ancient (ok, not so ancient) art of....ventriliquism.

Network Updates!
FOX
Fox's FRINGE has been relegated to the Friday death slot, so it's more than likely going to be Fringe's last season. The mythology of the show has gotten pretty complicated this season, so i can see why the ratings have taken a dive, but i still love the show.
Running Wilde has been effectively canceled, and it will be airing its last episode December 28th. Fox has also canceled The Good Guys - its last episode will be December 10th.
Fox has picked up Christian Slater's new series Breaking In, a workplace comedy rumored to be replacing Running Wilde.

Medium has also been canceled by CBS. It will air its last episode 1/21.

Syfy will be premiering Merlin's third season on January 7th at 10 pm. This is a great show that aired its first season on NBC. It's a BBC import staring Anthony Head from the Buffy television series.
Syfy also will be premiering their new show Being Human on Monday, January 17th at 9 pm. This is a remake of the BBC show of the same name about a werewolf, ghost, and a vampire living together. In this version, they live together in a Boston brownstone.
Syfy will air the Christmas episodes of Eureka and Warehouse 13 on December 8th.

Running Wilde...running on fumes
Fox has put Running Wild on hiatus for the rest of November. Hopefully they'll just put it out of its misery, as the ratings are dismal, and the show isn't very good.
On another note, I bought the Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World DVD on Tuesday, and finally watched it today. It was as entertaining this time as it was in theaters. This is a movie i could probably watch over and over again and still enjoy. Everyone should see it. There are a ton of deleted scenes on the DVD that are interesting ot watch as well.

WWE's Edge guest starring in Sanctuary finale in spring

WWE SUPERSTAR EDGE® GUEST STARS AS AN “ABNORMAL” IN SEASON FINALE OF SYFY’S POPULAR SERIES Sanctuary
NEW YORK – November 2, 2010 – WWE Superstar Edge® from WWE Friday Night Smackdown® will guest star in Syfy’s popular series Sanctuary. He will portray an abnormal named Thelo, an integral character in the season finale (scheduled to air in spring 2011).
Sanctuary airs Friday night at 10PM (ET/PT), immediately following its tag team partner Friday Night Smackdown at 8PM (ET/PT).
Edge has proven himself to be a Renaissance man, having written a successful autobiography Adam Copeland on Edge in addition to becoming a 9-time World Champion in WWE. Edge recently finished filming the feature film Bending the Rules in New Orleans alongside Jamie Kennedy, Jennifer Esposito, Alicia Witt and Jessica Walter.

Series Updates for ABC, NBC, CW, Syfy
No surprise to most of us, NBC's (And J.J. Abrams) Undercovers has been cancelled. The show never reached much of an audience and consistently recieved mediocre numbers. The show will continue to run until December 1st, but production on the show has been halted.
NBC has given full season pick ups to Chase, Chuck, The Event, Outsourced, and Law and Order: Los Angeles bringing their totals up to 24 episodes.
In addition, NBC has upped the order of episodes for Community by two to make it 24 for the season. This does not guarantee renewal however.

ABS has cancelled the Whole Truth, which got pretty bad ratings. They have not yet indicated if all 13 episodes would air.
ABC has given Better with You, Brother & Sisters and No Ordinary Family full season orders, bringing their episode totals up to 22. Detroit 1-8-7 has been given an increased order, brining its total up to 18.
CBS' Medium, which is in its 5th season has had its order cut down to 13 episodes this seasin and is highly likely to be cancelled by the end of the season.
Syfy Has cancelled Caprica, their Battlestar Galactica follow-up that never really caught on with the fans.

Marvel and DC TV Series Updates
ABC is currently developing a new Incredible Hulk series. Marvel thinks the Incredible Hulk will have legs as a television series like the 80s series on CBS. The Incredible Hulk did not do well in feature film format, as there have been two movies in the last ten years, and neither did particularly well.
Marvel also may be looking at developing a Cloak and Dagger series based upon the Marvel characters of Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, with the powers of a cloak of darkness and light daggers, respectively.This show may be developed for ABC Family.
Also, from DC Entertainment, David E. Kelley (creator of Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public and Boston Legal) is developing a new Wonder Woman TV series. Syfy renews Haven and Warehouse 13
Syfy has renewed Warehouse 13, Syfy's highest rated show in 2010 for a third season of 13 episodes. The show was Syfy's most watched in 2010, and was well received by critics. It's main theme song was also nominated for an Emmy.
Syfy's new 2010 summer show, Haven (based on the Colorado Kid by Stephen King), has been renewed for a second season, to shoot in Spring 2011 for a summer 2011 release (probably still using this year's lead in Eureka as it's lead-in again). Haven held 82 % of its viewers from its Eureka lead-in, and doubled the Syfy Friday 10 pm ratings average.

Raising Hope on Fox has been performing well on Tuesday nights. So well, in fact, that it is the # 2 new comedy for adults 18-34 (behind CBS's Mike & Molly) and the # 1 show for teens and young women.

NBC has decided to halt production on its friday night drama, Outlaw, starring Jimmy Smits. Fridays at 10 pm is not exactly prime real estate ofr any new TV show, so i can certainly see why it hasn't made much of a splash. NBC hasn't yet cancelled it though, and the show has 5 more epsisodes to air while it monitors the ratings, but things don't look good for Outlaw, or for NBC right now.

Fall TV Ratings - Sluggish TV Season

I think it's hard not to say after this TV Viewing season that TV Viewership is down, but it's also fairly obvious that most of the new TV shows have not found an audience. The first two fall casualties have already been canceled after two episodes - FOX's Lone Star was the first, and ABC's My Generation was the second.
In addition, this week NBC's Chase dipped below a 1.7, which is extremely low for a (new) first season show. NBC's The Event (whose advertising budget was larger than most returning series entire production budgets) lost 17% of its viewership this week as well, bringing it down to a 2.4. NBC's other big new premier, JJ Abrams Undercovers, dropped to a 1.6 for a 24% drop in its second week.
ABC's The Whole Truth is down 20% to a 1.2 putting it firmly in the cancellation zone as well. Detroit 1-8-7 hasn't found an audience either, at a 2.1, and is likely to be canceled by the end of the season.
FOX's The Good Guys is likely to be the next to be canceled with a 0.7 rating, and is Running Wilde going to be far behind at a 2.3?
The CW is down across the board as well, so it's hard to see what shows will be canceled. Life Unexpected is certainly going to be canceled with a .77 rating. The rest are too close to call, but the CW will certainly need some work, as their rating are all quite low.
CBS is doing the best of all the network overall, with none of their shows in cancellation range yet.
That concludes the ratings report for the first two weeks of fall TV.

Modern Family starts out with a funny episode about the passage of time, and trying to recapture it. Phil, Gloria, and Mitchell had some funny moments in this episode. The show seems to have grown up a little bit since it began a year ago, and I have grown to like it more and more, the more I watch it. The humor never seems telegraphed or forced, even though some of the things that happen are a little extreme.
This is one of the best comedies of 2009, and it is still just as funny. The only shows that I think are funnier are The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, which are focused on a different demographic. None of this years new comedies are as funn as Modern Family so far, though they certainly have potential.

This first episode of season 2 guest starts the second of Courtney Cox's Friends alum. In the first season it was Lisa Kudrow, and this episode it is Jennifer Anniston, playing Jules' new therapist, Glenn. Glenn helps Jules understand why Grayson needs some time without her. Elle helps her realize that Glenn is just as crazy as the rest of them.
Laurie and Travis make a bet to see who can stay up longer, further cementing their sibling-like relationship, in one of the most entertaining moments in the episode.

One of my friends suggested that I watch NBC's new comedy Outsourced, and I tried to like it, I really did. The thing is, I live in America, as do most of the people watching the show, and I find it relatively offensive to spend an entire 30 minutes go back and forth between making fun of Indian culture, food etc. and making fun of American culture, food, etc.
Its hard to decide what the target audience for a show like this is – I chuckled once or twice, but most of the time, making fun of the relative frivolity and freedom of American culture was annoying more than upsetting.
Only one of the characters stood out in my mind – but I honestly couldn't even tell you his name. The premise has legs, but the writing needs some tweaking, and many fewer jokes making fun of American and Indian culture. The culture clash should create the humor instead of blatantly making fun of one or the other.

I wasn't looking forward to watching this show, because the premise didn't “grab” me. Once I started watching the show though, I was interested. Like Greg Garcia's other show, My Name is Earl, the show is grungy, realistic, and fun. It is funny, perhaps the funniest show I've seen this year. Some of the funniest characters in the first episode got minimal screen time, but I'm sure that'll change throughout the rest of the season.
Jimmy Chance had a one night stand, and the next morning we find out she's a murderer. The Chance family sends her back to prison, and 9 months later we find out the one night stand had a baby. Soon the mother is out of the picture, and Jimmy is left with a baby girl, named “Princess Beyonce” by her mother. The baby is soon renamed “Hope” and Jimmy decides to keep her, after the disagreement of his entire family, who can barely afford to take care of themselves.
Martha Plimpton plays Jimmy's mother Virginia, and she is one of the strong points of the show. Also, his grandmother is played by Cloris Leachman, and she steals every scene as the often senile old woman. I wish we could see more of her, and hope we do. The other character I hoped to see more of was the Grocery store worker, and potential love interest for Jimmy, Sabrina (Shannon Woodward), whose scenes were quirky and funny.
The show is sweet and funny, and some of the scenes with the baby make me laugh because Jimmy seems to be just as clueless about how to raise a baby as any first time parent (more so than some). Some of the comedy is a little bit exaggerated, and the sight gags are funny, especially the one with the kiss (I won't go into detail, but I squirmed).
I liked this show and thought it was cute, endearing, and funny. The cast is great, and the chemistry is there. I hope Hope is around for a long time.

Mike & Molly follows two fat people, Mike Biggs, a police officer looking to lose weight, and Molly Flynn, a fourth-grade teacher. They meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting, they make a connection, though they fail to make a date. They then meet again later, and Mike finally has the confidence to ask her out.
The show has its funny moments, and the supporting cast so far seems pretty entertaining, but there were just too many fat jokes. The show is about fat people, we get it (I mean his name is Mike Biggs, seriously?) - the show is about fat people going to Overeaters anonymous. The fat jokes should be well placed and littered infrequently thought the episode, but I thought the pilot was thin on plot with way too many fat jokes.
I'm still not sure where this show is going, I'm not sure what tension here is, since we know they'll end up together (The show IS called Mike & Molly after all) . I'll stick around because I like what I've seen of the characters and the cast, but the writing has to improve, and they have to work on their jokes.
I'll be around for another episode or two, but there better be something in those episodes to keep me around.

This is No Ordinary Show!
No Ordinary Family

I have been waiting for the premiere of No Ordinary Family on ABC since I heard about it this past summer. It has gotten quite a bit of advertising, and has grown quite a bit of buzz over the past few months. Many people consider it the spiritual successor to NBC's Heroes, which was canceled last spring after 4 seasons.
There aren't a whole lot of similarities between the two shows though other than the fact that both shows star people with superpowers. I imagine NBC's mid-season replacement show The Cape is more likely to be heroes spiritual successor in genre as well as tone, but time will tell.
In the meantime, No Ordinary Family seems like it is going to be a very character-based, family-oriented show. It is sort-of like a live-action version of The Incredibles, but instead of comedy and light-hearted fun, this will be a dramady (drama+comedy) complete with both humorous moments and character-based drama.
The show is about Jim and Stephanie Powell and their kids Daphne and JJ.Their lives have caused them to feel disconnected from one another until they go on a vacation to Brazil, and get in a plane crash in the Amazon. Their plane crashes into the Amazon, and they land in glowing green water. When they return home they find out that they all have gained superpowers - Jim is super-strong, near invulnerable, and can leap, Stephanie has gained super-speed, Daphne has gained the ability to hear other people's thoughts, and JJ, who previously had learning disabilities, now has super-intelligence.
I was under the impression that they would be the only super-powered people on the show, but was pleasantly surprised to see at least one more in the pilot, and I imagine there'll be more to come.
The pilot begins with the plane crash and then shows us how they developed their powers. The show is not above turning the usual comic conventions on their ears, such as invulnerability, "leaping tall buildings in a single bound", etc. as well as containing many Easter eggs for comic book and superhero fans. It seems like the writers are having a lot of fun with the show, it's characters, and the genre as a whole.
The pilot is a lot like the first issues of a comic book in that it explains the heroes origins, so the tone and pacing of the first episode is likely to be different then the rest of the episodes, but if the first episode is any indication, it looks like this show is going to be a lot of fun.
Overall I enjoyed the episode quite a bit, and can't wait for the rest of the season. This is one of the few new hour-long TV shows I will be watching this season (The other are The Cape and The Event). The Cape doesn't start until mid-season, and I haven't yet watched The Event but as long as the writing stays as strong, intelligent, and funny as the first episode, I think it is safe to say this is one of the best new TV Shows of the season.

Modern Family is Quirky Family Fun

Last year, I heard a lot of buzz about the two new ABC fall comedies, Modern Family and The Middle. I recently saw an episode of The Middle, and I wasn't impressed. Because of this, I decided to skip The Middle and instead decided to watch Modern Family.
Modern Family is about family - three different families, to be exact, all of them different variations of the modern family unit. There's Jay, his new wife Gloria, and her son Manny. Gloria and Manny are Columbian, and Gloria is much younger than Jay. The second family is Jay's daughter Claire, her husband Phil,and their three kids, Haley, Alex and Luke. The third family is Jay's son Mitchell, his partner Cameron, and their adopted Chinese daughter Lily.
The show is set up as a mockumentary, with sitdowns with family members in between scenes relating to specific topics, such as motherhood, fatherhood, passing time, birthdays, holidays, etc. The show won three Emmy's including Best Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
The show takes a little geting used to, as I have not in the past watched a comedy series with this particular style. Other shows with this mockumentary style include The Office and Parks and Recreation.
The families seem real, much more real than most other families on television. The comedy comes from realistic situations, and realistic (and sometimes quirky) characters. The characters are pitch perfect, and very funny, especially Eric Stonestreet (Cameron) and Ed O'Neil (Jay). They have a certain quirkiness to them, which reminds you that they are supposed to represent the modern family, in all its forms, flaws and all.
The one problem I have with the show is the character of Phil (Ty Burell). He seems almost too quirky and childish to be a father of three kids. Other than that, I think the characters are spot on and realistic.

Smallville: Season 9 - The right way to do Superhero TV

Smallville has been on for nine seasons, as a modern reinterpretation of the Superman mythology. It has gone through it's ups and downs, from the first few seasons
“Krypto-freak of the Week” format to where it stands now. The show stands to break the record for the longest running science fiction in the US series as it begins its 10th (and final) season this fall.
The chemistry between Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) is electric, and shows in every scene they share. At first, I did not like Erica's take on Lois Lane, but she has made the role her own, and it doesn't show any more than in this season.
Every season has characters and mythology from the Superman and DC Comics universe. This season is no exception, with the inclusion of Metallo (Brian Austin Green) the Wonder Twins (David Gallagher and Allison Scagliotti), Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Doctor Fate (Brent Stait), Stargirl (Britt Irvine) and Amanda Waller of Checkmate (Pam Grier), Zod (Callum Blue) and the return of fan favorite heroes Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Cyborg.
Clark and Oliver (Green Arrow) come closer than ever this season to forming the Justice League, thanks in no small part to the bond shared by the members of the Justice Scoiety in the Absolute Justice episode. By the end of the season you can see the pieces falling into place for the Justice League in Season 10. There has always been an unspoken rule for Clark Kent on Smallville, to keep the show grounded - “no tights, no flights”, and we see in the finale of season 9, that rule may now be off the table as the show heads to its conclusion.
The Clark Kent from Smallville is much different than the Clark Kent from the comics, perhaps more jaded, but still heroic, but if you do not compare Smallville to the comics, the show shines as an example of how to do superhero television show right, while still using costumes and superpowers and keeping the show heavily grounded in reality.
Ever since Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) left the show (after season 7), the show has gone through a modest decrease in enjoyability. This season seems to have returned to its former glory, being the most enjoyable season of the show since season 7. I still look forward to Lex's return in some form or another in Season 10, as he is certainly one of the most important characters in the Superman mythology.
